About Rosebank Union Church

Calling, Teaching and Sending Disciples for the Glory of God

Our Story

By the grace of God, Rosebank Union Church was established in 1906 and now has a proud history of over 100 years of faithful service, with impact and influence in both Johannesburg and the ends of the earth.

Our Character

We are an non-denominational evangelical church with a passion for making Gospel centred followers of Jesus Christ. While we do not belong to any specific denomination, we have a close relationship with the Baptist Union of Southern Africa, and belong to a number of fraternities with various local evangelical denominations and churches. Please read more about our specific mission and beliefs.

Our Pastoral Team

Our Pastoral staff have dedicated roles within our church community which align with our mission as a church. Their roles cover the areas of Teaching and Preaching, Discipleship and Training, Care and Counselling, and community. We also have a team dedicated specifically to the Next Generation cluster of ministries which seeks to disciple the children, youth and young adults of our community.

Our Passion for Discipleship

We want to become a church that is characterized by Gospel Centred Discipleship. We want to see people whole-heatedly following Jesus for their joy and God's glory, so that we can each be more effective in our role within God’s mission of redeeming the world to himself.

Our Love for the Next Generation

Rosebank Union Church has a deep love and concern for the Next Generation. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who help run our vibrant Next Generation ministries, including youth groups, Sunday schools, Bible studies, missions trips and holiday clubs.

Our Passion for Cross Cultural Missions

We are actively involved in Christian missions and outreach both locally and around the world. Recognising the vast need in the underprivileged communities on our doorstep, we are seeking to impact the Alexandra township with the love of Christ through our non-profit organisation Rays of Hope.

We are also a church that is actively sending and supporting missionaries around the world, involved in church planting initiatives, Bible Translation projects, Discipleship training, education and leadership. Visit our Missions page to find out more.

Our Care and Counselling Ministries

The Care cluster of ministries and support groups aim to care for God’s people at RUC as well as in our immediate Johannesburg community. We have dedicated counselling centre which offers safe, confidential and professional help to anyone in need. Our vibrant care ministry supports and encourages people in times of need. We also have close ties to the Rosehaven Retirement Village which was started by Rosebank Union Church in 1976.

Our Church Planting Initiatives

Over the course of our history as a church, Rosebank Union Church has planted four churches in the Johannesburg area (including churches in Parkhurst, Northcliff, Ferndale and Sandown). In January 2013 we had the privilege of sending a core team of members and leaders to startup a new church in Parkhurst.
